The Town of Amherstburg has partnered with Everbridge to launch an emergency notification system.
'Amherstburg Alert' is up and running, but the resident database still needs to be fully populated.
This from fire chief Bruce Montone who says residents can register for the service online or by attending one of four information sessions the town has planned.
Montone says residents can be contacted in a number of ways.
"We would be looking for whatever means of contact that they would prefer," says Montone. "Whether it's a home phone, a cell phone, an email address, maybe they want to receive a text or a voicemail, it's their choice and in whatever order they'd like to receive it."
Montone says the system can be used for more than just emergencies.
"We're offering additional information that can be provided through the system like road closures, those kinds of things, maintenance going on within the town itself and lastly, they'll have a choice on whether they want to receive information on upcoming community events. We have almost 14,000 contacts already pre-loaded. This will hopefully complete that. Then we'll be completely live and functioning and then all people will need to do in the future is if their phone number, for example, or other contacts change over time, we would ask them to keep that accurate."
Resident registration goes August 8, 9, 11 and 14. Each session will be for a different part of the town. For more information or to register online click here.
