The Town of Amherstburg is spending an extra $145,000 to order 210 more LED lights after realizing it was short for its streetlight conversion project.
The nearly $1.2-million project now tops $1.332-million after the purchase of the additional lights.
Administration points to a gap in its data system that showed the lights were owned by the County of Essex, when in fact, the infrastructure was town-owned.
Anchor Hydro has been installing the new energy efficient lights throughout the town core in the last few weeks.
Amherstburg CAO John Miceli says the town continues to update its asset management plan to ensure it is operating with the best information.
"Where we don't have those studies, that's where our level of confidence isn't as great because we've done the capturing of that data through either our GPS system — things of that nature," he says. "We do have some gaps, we recognize that, and we're going to try and try and correct that going forward."
He says feedback has been positive as the new LED lights have been turned on and residents are happy with the lighting levels.
The additional lights cost the same per unit price as the previously purchased product and the late purchase isn't expected to delay installation.
