The Amherstburg police officer injured in a crash on County Rd. 8 one week ago is now charged.

Police say a cruiser and another vehicle were near South Side Rd. when the collision happened and both vehicles veered off the road.

The officer involved in the crash has been charged with "making an unsafe turn."

According to police, the officer was attempting to make a U-turn with emergency lights activated, in order to stop a speeding vehicle headed southbound, when he pulled in front of another northbound vehicle.

The officer suffered two fractures in his neck and another in his back — he was treated and released from hospital following the crash.
