Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo is excited to see what could become of the former Honeywell chemical plant property.
The remaining buildings on the site along Front Rd. in the town are set to be demolished and the land sold.
"The new jobs that would likely come with a new tenant on the site would be a big boost for the town," says DiCarlo. "It's a prime spot for any commercial opportunity. At this point the property literally can be used for anything, so we're not limited to the heavy chemical industry that was there, but hey if we can bring jobs back to Amherstburg, great."

DiCarlo says the company is looking to sell the land as a whole and there may only be a handful of companies that would suit. "We're down to two or three big companies I guess that might be interested in something that big with all those utilities there. In that respect, being private, there's not a lot I can talk about, just that there has been some interest and hopefully it translates into something."
Honeywell committed to cleaning up the land, following Ministry of Environment guidelines, before moving out.
The plant has been closed since August 2014.
