The help wanted sign is up in Amherstburg.
The town's fire department is looking for volunteer firefighters.
Chief Bruce Montone says a recruitment campaign is currently underway.
"Although we don't have any openings as we sit here today, we do anticipate over the next year some people will be retiring and so we're trying to build up a reserve of candidates that we can very quickly put into service," says Montone.
Montone says the numbers were lower than expected the the last time the fire department did a recruitment call.
"Every time you do this process, depending on the current labour force situation and people coming and going and working locally or at least in the general area that changes and so the availability changes as well," admits Montone.
He tells AM800 News the department hopes to have the selection process completed by the end of the year.
"Our hope is it would be completed by the end of the calendar year and then as we move into next year, we'll be in a pretty good position to have some people ready and willing to go," says Montone.
Montone says interested candidates must live in Amherstburg, possess a grade 12 education and have to be 18-years or older.
He says a mandatory orientation session will take place in September.
