Amherstburg house fire ruled accidental, damage set at $30,000

Amherstburg fire crews responded to a house fire in the 7000 block of Eagle Crescent around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire officials say the blaze started in the basement and caused smoke damage throughout the home.

One resident was checked at the scene, according to fire chief Michael Mio.

Mio says working smoke alarms alerted the resident, and reminds the public to make sure alarms are installed and tested regularly.

The fire has been ruled accidental, with damage estimated at about $30,000.
