Amherstburg Fire is issuing a reminder to the community.
Chief Bruce Montone says a company called Community Fire Protection Inc. has been soliciting businesses for donations into their Fire Safe Tots initiative.
He says the company is charging $15 for the material, but Amherstburg Fire offers the fire safety programs and supplies to children of all ages for free.
"They're soliciting funds to provide fire prevention materials to daycare centre children and they're looking for, based on the posters I saw, $15 dollars per child."
Montone says they have not been able to reach the out of town company.
"We have tried, unsuccessfully at this point, but we have tried to reach out to them. But we did contact the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs to find out if this was unique to our area, and as it turns out, it's happening in other communities across Ontario."

He says he and other firefighters are raising awareness to business owners and the community.
"A number of my colleagues are speaking out and so we're doing the same thing just to make sure that our tax payers and our local businesses understand that what they're asking for is already provided for free of charge."
Amherstburg Fire has been informing residents via social media that it is not affiliated with Community Fire Protection Inc.
