Amherstburg Town Council has awarded a contract to Jones Group Ltd. to complete the demolition of AMA Arena.
The demolition will be overseen by the municipality to make sure that all rules and regulations are followed.
Councillor, Diane Pouget, says she believes council should have deferred the decision to another date.
She says she believes council did not have enough information regarding the companies applying for the contract.
"I was very concerned, I felt the report was inadequate," says Pouget. "It did not tell us the difference between the amount of money each company was willing to bid to acquire the contract and we had to take administration's word for it."
Pouget says she will be keeping a close eye on the demolition.
"I will be watching very closely," says Pouget. "I will also be telling people that call me as a result of this decision to call the other councillors that did not to appear to be as concerned as I was regarding this demolition."
She says she wants to make sure the demolition will not affect the health of residents.
"You know it is a very heavily populated area and I do not want any of our residents to get hurt," says Pouget. "I want to make sure council knew exactly what they were doing and I feel we did not have enough information in the report to make a good decision."
Council is aiming for the company to begin demolition of the arena in March.
The contract is worth just over $139,000 excluding taxes.
