Amherstburg is showcasing what it has to offer over the next few days as judges from Communities in Bloom are in town.
The judges have arrived to grade the town for the national competition which includes five other towns from Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.
Amherstburg's Manager of Culture and Tourism, Anne Rota, says after finishing second to Niagara on the Lake in 2016, the town is confident they can win this time around.
Rota says a win would be huge for the town.
"To have won a national first place for Communities in Bloom is huge because Communities in Bloom is actually international," says Rota. "We can actually move on and beat China or Spain. It's huge recognition. It's great branding."
Rota says preparation for the competition is a year-long process.
"If you think it's just sticking a few plants in a pot — no," says Rota. "You have to submit an entire booklet on everything your community is doing. Wastewater, urban forestry. A lot of departments are part of this process. It was a big, big team effort."
This is the third year Amherstburg has taken part in Communities in Bloom.
Results will be announced in Ottawa in September.
