The Town of Amherstburg is moving ahead with the replacement of the Second Concession Bridge over the Long Marsh Drain.
The project is set to cost nearly $1.2-million to replace the bowstring arch bridge which is further down from the River Canard Bridge by St. Joseph's Church.
Despite some pleas from the community, the new bridge won't keep the same style as the outgoing structure.
The town initially intended to save the original design, but detailed testing showed more extensive repairs were needed and to keep the same aesthetic would require a lot more money.

To keep the current design was estimated to cost $1.8-million and would have meant more complex maintenance over its lifetime.
Front Construction Industries Inc. is being hired to handle the work.
The new bridge is expected to stand for 75 years.
