It's going to be a bit more pleasant for people going to the Geriatric Assessment Program at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare.
A donation is going to spruce up the waiting room area for the program.
The GAP is used to assess people who may have dementia or Alzheimer Disease.
The funding is from the Precious Moments event held in October at Cooper's Hawk Winery.
Event Chair Gino Lomazzo says they hope their gift makes a difference.
"We donated over $3,000 in order to help the waiting, to make the waiting room now more pleasant. So when a patient is having to walk in, they feel more comfortable."
He says it's important to help families help their older family members.
"Alzheimer's is viewed as a disease of the old and these are our parents, our grandparents, and the disease only keeps on growing and the numbers are going through the roof. So it's a matter of we have to do more to provide the services."
Lomazzo says Alzheimer Disease is a challenge for family members.
"It is more the impact that it has on the families, it's not always the patient. It's the impact it has on the family in order to provide the proper support. We have busy lives and trying to help a person with Alzheimer's is overwhelming."
Lomazzo says the event raised a total of $6,500 for Alzheimer's support.
He says the annual event is being organized again for this coming October.
