An Amherstburg councillor is calling for the creation of a Master Aging Plan for the town.
Diane Pouget says, according to Statistics Canada, adults over 55 represent 34% of Amherstburg's population and a plan like this is well overdue.
New programming and infrastructure need to be investigated.
"We do know that a large majority of the people living in Amherstburg are seniors," says Pouget. "So a seniors master plan will assist us in knowing what type of services we need to offer our seniors."
She says a number of factors need to be looked at, "It's infrastructure, it's planning programs that we need for our seniors and, basically, what type of needs will they have at a certain age?"
The town will now apply to Ministry of Seniors Affairs for funding help with the creation of the plan, and Pouget would like to see the plan included in the town's 2018 budget.
