A 60-year-old Windsor man was on the stand today, in is own defence.
Kenneth Sparks is accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault after an incident inside an Ottawa Street apartment building in March 2015.
Two women were found badly injured, one in a bathtub with stab wounds the other with head injuries lying on the ground.
Sparks told the court he had been invited inside the apartment of one victim he had an on and off relationship with.
She and her friend across the hallway planned to go out for a birthday celebration.
Sparks had brought beer and wine, but said the two women were taking drugs.
He described how the women went back and forth between the apartments getting ready and began to argue calling each other names.
Sparks says they started to physically fight, ending up on the floor.
He says he tried to intervene, but when he saw blood stepped back and went to get his coat.
By the time he came back into the room the two women had left, he says he found one under the stairs but didn't see the other.
Crown George Spartinos is cross-examining Sparks, suggesting he was the one who stabbed one woman and beat the other with a long pipe.
Sparks has denied that version of events.
Today's proceedings have wrapped up and will continue again on Tuesday.
