Amherstburg town council will give direction this evening for the 2018 budget.
Council is expected to ask administration to prepare the draft document with a general tax rate increase of up to 2%.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo say council made a similar request for the 2017 budget.
He says budget deliberations are expected to begin later this year.
"You know the town is known for going through the budget on a line by line so where it ends, I guess we'll see."
He says Amherstburg residents can expect a tax increase.
"No one wants tax increases, I definitely don't want a tax increase but there's been plenty of coverage lately not just in Amherstburg but across the province, we got large infrastructure deficits that have to be addressed."
He says he's been honest with residents when discussing the budget.
"On a day-to-day basis people will ask me about taxes and tax increases and my immediate response is usually expect a tax increase because no matter what we do, we're going to have to plan to pay for all this infrastructure that we have."
In 2017, council started off with a proposed 1.99% increase but after deliberations the increase was trimmed to 1.89%.
That worked out to $34 on a home valued at $191,000.
