Information from the public is being sought about a serious case of animal neglect.
On Wednesday January 10th, the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society learned there was a large orange and white cat that was sitting motionless on Tremblay Sideroad in Essex.
An officer with the Humane Society arrived and rushed it to a vet. The cat’s temperature was so low it didn't register on the thermometer and her body was so cold it was shutting down her organs, and she was convulsing.
The cat received intensive treatment and the Humane Society doesn't believe she wouldn't survived if left outside any longer.
The cat, now named "Elsa", was found to have fur so tightly matted that it was trapping urine and cat litter against her skin that was causing her underside to become necrotic under the matted fur.
Elsa is about 4-years old, spayed and declawed, is overweight, weighing approximately 18 pounds.
Anyone with information about who may have owned or abandoned Elsa is asked to call the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society cruelty investigations department at 519-966-5751, ext 16 or Crimestoppers at 519-258-8477.
