The entrance to St. Clair College in Windsor is being renamed.
It was called Geraedts Dr., named after Bill Garaedts, the former director of facilities.
But when construction of the Herb Grey Parkway began, college spokesman John Fairley says the school took the opportunity have it renamed St. Clair College Dr.. "It's been Geraedts Dr. around the whole campus here for probably close to 20 years. So we had the opportunity, talking with the parkway officials and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, to have the opportunity to call it something different and we came up with St. Clair College Dr.."
"The street wrapping around campus and through it's back exit will still honour the long time administrator," says Fairley. "We didn't want to offend the family or you know, he has passed, but we wanted to at least keep his name. So we didn't go for a total rename, just to make it as our entrance, because Geraedts Dr. is still the official name of the street coming in from our Cabana Rd. entrance."
Fairley says this is another significant event marking the 50th anniversary year of the college.
He says they are also looking forward to celebrating 50 years in the community during Homecoming Weekend, May 19th to 21st.
