The past chair of the Sandwich Improvement Area is disappointed a small west-end grocery store has shut down.
Mary Ann Cuderman says West Side Foods Olde Towne Grocer on Sandwich Street closed after the Christmas holidays but the blow was felt more a couple of weeks ago when the building was put up for sale.
She calls the closure disappointing and feels it will impact the community.
"We have such a high volume of students here and high rise apartments with seniors in them that count on this," says Cuderman. "Not as a full blown grocery store but at least a place they can pick up some fresh vegetables and various things that they need."

She hopes whoever purchases the building keeps it a grocery store.
"We would love to see it continue as a grocery store," says Cuderman. "We would love to see it but I don't think we can have any influence in it."
Cuderman tells AM800 news, she remembers shopping at the store in the 1960's when it was an IGA.
