There has been a decrease in the number of people collecting Employment Insurance in Windsor-Essex.
Statistics Canada reports the number of EI beneficiaries in the Windsor area dropped 13% in December compared with November, with 480 fewer people collecting benefits.
When comparing December of 2015 to December of 2016, EI claims are down 15.3% in this area.
In total, 3,220 people were collecting benefits in December of 2016.
According to Stats Canada, 568,800 people nation-wide received regular Employment Insurance benefits in December, down slightly from the previous month.
In general, changes in the number of regular EI beneficiaries reflect various situations, including people becoming beneficiaries, those going back to work and those no longer receiving regular benefits.
Windsor's jobless rate dropped to 5.4% in January, compared to 5.7% in December of 2016.
