It has been dangerously cold outside, but a small break is on the way.
Meteorologist Doug Gillham, from the Weather Network, says there is light at the end of the tunnel.
He says temperatures will start to recover on Sunday.
"We will go above freezing on Monday, step back down a little bit on Tuesday, back to seasonal. And then on Thursday, we have a shot at reaching double digits. Again, that warm up will be brief as we have a wintry weekend for next weekend."
Gillham says winter lovers shouldn't worry.
"For the skiers, this is not going to be the end of winter. This is a "wintermission" or an intermission before part two comes. We do expect a return to winter, roughly between the 5th and 10th of February. We think the pattern will change again."
He says there will be a strong finish to the winter season.
"I don't think we'll see the persistence or severity of the cold. We think February into March will have a more active pattern, certainly has the potential to be rather snowy. Snow and ice may be the bigger story in round two."
The low this evening is -19 C or -28 C with the wind chill.
