CUPE Local 27 is giving back to the community.
The union has donated $25,000 to the Downtown Mission.
Chief Steward Carlo DeRose says it's the local's largest donation to the mission ever.
He says the money will be used for food, clothing and other neccessities.
"We're glad to help out to do our part," says DeRose. "I know times are tough in the City of Windsor and we're just happy we can contribute and help out get more people more meals or beds to make things better."
DeRose says the local wanted to make a big statement this year.
"We donate every year," says DeRose. "We never did this large amount. We know the economy is not as good as it should be and there's always more needs so that's why we made a larger amount."
He says the local donates to community groups every year.
"At Christmas time we donate to a different breakfast clubs and different organizations but we really wanted to make a big statement and help out as much as we could so that's why we picked the Downtown Mission and the amount and the membership feels awesome about it with the executive that we can help out.
DeRose says the local has about 280 members including custodians, building maintenance, preventative maintenance and courier drivers.
