Wednesday night was the annual Battle of the Hors Doeuvres fundraiser
The 32nd annual Battle of the Hors D'oeuvres has served up delicious dishes from as many as 20 local food and drink vendors.
The sold-out event Wednesday night at Caesars Windsor is a major fundraiser for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Windsor-Essex.
It was supposed to be held in May but was postponed due to a labour dispute at the casino.
Executive Director Becky Parent says the guests still supported the cause even with a date change.
"We have some really stalwart supporters, people who have been coming to this event for many, many years," says Parent. "So I guess they've been quite reliable in this sense, came out again this year and, I guess, proves that no matter what time of year we have it, it's a good time."
Proceeds generated from the fundraiser support seven youth mentoring programs.
"We serve more than 800 kids in Windsor-Essex so we have to raise the funds for those kids," says Parent. "So we raise about half of our budget through events like the Battle of the Hors D'oeuvres."
A fundraising total has yet to be announced but Parent says more than $60,000 is usually raised.
