This year's Bob Probert Ride is raising funds to expand cardiac services in Essex County.
Registration is now open for the 7th annual ride in memory of the former hockey player who passed away July 5th, 2010 from a massive heart attack.
To date, the event has raised $647,218.24 for cardiac programs and services at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.
This year's funds will be used for a planned satellite centre of the cardiac rehab centre in the Tecumseh and Lakeshore area.
Probert's widow Dani Probert says for the family, this is about honouring Bob.
"For us to raise money for cardiac care and we have had some loved ones in the past couple years that are going through the same thing, it is so tragic and with that tragedy we want to turn it around and find something positive," said Dani Probert. "For my kids it is something positive to focus on and be a part of."

This year's ride captain is former NHL defenceman Dave Hutchinson who has taken part in the event for the several years. He says being a ride captain is an honour.
"Bob was a close friend of mine and of course we knew the family through Bob and we have a tight hockey alumni family," he said.
The event is set for Sunday, June 25th with stops at Colchester Bar and Grill, Wolfhead Distillery with a final stop at the Caboto Club.
