The Essex 73's grabbed the opening game in their Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division semi-final series, trimming Amherstburg 3-2 in double overtime in Essex.
Luke Gecse scored the winner on Tuesday night, and unassisted goal, almost fourteen minutes into the second overtime frame.
Michael Ruttinger had the other two Essex goals, one in the first and the other in the second period.
Caleb Paquette and Cory Burns scored for the 4th seeded Admirals, who got 55 saves from goalie Ben Larder.
Burns had a great chance to win it, however his penalty shot was stopped by Connor Meyerink at 18:34 of the first overtime session.
In other action, the Dresden Kings beat the Lakeshore Canadiens 3-0 to open their best-of-seven semifinal series.
