WINDSOR — A winter storm is heading our way — but it will be more spring like.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for this weekend due to heavy amounts of rain that are expected.
Meteorologist Peter Kimball says there could be 50 mm or more of rain over a 24 hour period.
"Possibly as high as 75mm but certainly most areas will see 50mm," he says.
Heavy rain is in the forecast for early Saturday morning and again Saturday night.
Because the ground is frozen due to overnight temperatures, there will be a risk of flooding, ponding and runoff.
Kimball says if temperatures were normal at this time of the year, as in below normal, this wouldn't be happening.
"The fact that we are getting all this rain is related to the fact that it is relatively warm air coming from the south," says Kimball. "In a colder air mass, we wouldn't be getting that warm feed of moisture from the south and therefore we wouldn't be getting quite as much snow."
Strong southwest winds are also expected Sunday morning, especially along Lake Erie.
