Road projects are underway in Wards 5, 6, and 7 in Windsor.

The city is spending roughly $4.8 million in those wards this road construction season on those projects.

The projects include road rehabilitation, reconstruction, and replacement.

Ward 5 is getting approximately $1.72 million worth of projects, while Ward 6 is getting $2.24 million and Ward 7 is getting $790,000 for the projects.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says some work has already started.

“We’re timing those things out in an appropriate way as well, and so where there are schools close by, we’re waiting until school lets out at the end of June to start some of the projects, and we’ve really been thoughtful with the schedules to make sure we’re having the least amount of impact on residents moving through the city as possible,” says Dilkens.

Ward 6 city councillor Jo-Anne Gignac says Riverside residents have lived in the area for generations.

She says the work is important for residents.

“They will say to me, ‘When is my road going to get some TLC?’ so it’s darn important, and I’m just absolutely delighted,” says Gignac.

She says one of the projects in her ward includes work on Ontario Street from Villaire Avenue to Glidden Avenue.

“Generally I hear from Riverside United, good people, great people who are always saying to me, ‘Jo-Anne, when is it going to happen?’” says Gignac. “So this one I’m absolutely delighted.”

In a release, the city says, “The 2026 projects will address a blend of local and collector roads through a mix of milling and paving asphalt resurfacing and road reconstruction work, which will extend the useful life of the roads by approximately 10 to over 20 years.”

The 2026 city budget includes $36.6 million in road rehab and repair investments, a 13 per cent increase in spending over 2025.
