Someone in the Windsor-area is about to have their life change.
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says someone in Windsor purchased one of the winning tickets in the June 6 Lotto MAX, a ticket that is worth $35-million.
The jackpot was $70-million and the Windsor winner will split the grand prize with another ticket sold in British Columbia.
OLG spokesperson Tony Bitonti says the most important part is getting the ticket validated with a lottery retailer, who will put it through the lottery terminal.
"The bells and whistles go off, they'll give you a receipt to say you won a big prize," he says. "Right away while you're in the store, the OLG contact centre will contact the store and they want to talk to the retailer, and they want to the person holding that ticket to start the process."
Bitonti says OLG knows where the winning ticket was sold, what time it was purchased and several other pieces of information they use for verification, but the only piece of information they need to get is the name of the winner.
He says it's important to get it validated and get the winner in the OLG system so they can begin the process of collecting the winnings whenever they want.
Bitonti says the best part of their job is giving someone life changing amounts of money.
"They come in nervous because they're not sure what happens, what's going to happen next. Once they get that money into their account or they walk out with a check, depending on the value of the prize, their faces light up and their mood lightens. You can see the burdens of the world are off their shoulders," he adds.
