Latest 2016 Census figures have been released

Stats Canada is out with the latest figures on commuting and they show the vast majority of residents in Windsor-Essex drive to work.

According to the 2016 Census, 86% of local residents drive which is well above the provincial and national averages.

Only 3.4% use public transit --  a figure well below the provincial and national averages.

Among mid-sized CMA (Central Metropolitan Areas), Windsor had the lowest proportion of commuters using sustainable transportation such as public transit, active transportation and carpooling.

The average commuting time in Windsor-Essex is 18.9 minutes, while the national average is 26.2.

The busiest commuting time is between 7 and 8am when 23% of us drive to work.
