Next year's budget deliberations kick-off this evening in Amherstburg.
The town has set aside three days this week to go over the proposed document, which proposes a 2% tax increase.
Town treasurer Justin Rousseau says the current council has been very diligent and believes all three days will be needed to go over the draft budget.
"They like to go line by line and make sure they question each piece of the operations so it could likely take the three days," he says. "They try to be very good stewards of the money, that's for sure."
He says a lot of work has gone into the budget.
"I think 2018 is probably the best document the town has put forward yet with regards to being transparent and delivering all of the issue papers for council to review. I think this is probably our best work yet."
Residents can expect a slight increase.
"We also have a 2.3% growth factor that we used in assessment base as well," explains Rousseau. "So we're looking for 2% on the mill rate and we have built in a growth factor for assessment growth as well."
Deliberations run Tuesday, November 28, 2017, from 6pm until 10pm at town hall, while Wednesday's session is from 2pm until 8pm and if need Thursday, November 29, 2017 will run from 9am until 4:30pm.
