The Windsor Essex Humane Society will be closing off 2016 with a record number of adoptions.
Executive Director Melanie Coulter says to date 2,470 animals have been adopted.
She says adoption numbers have been rising every year for the past few years now.
"It is so exciting to see. Seeing them go home and we have seen especially over the holidays a lot of them come back or sent pictures and seeing how they are doing in their new homes and seeing them loved is what we do this for," says Coulter.
She says people are starting to realize that there are more benefits to adopting an animal rather than buying one.
"I think there is a lot of awareness of the value of the adoption package. We have a great adoption package, it includes a lot of things that if you buy an animal is not included. Heartworms test, tests for Leukemia, they are spayed, neutered, surgery, vaccines, all of those are included," says Coulter.
The Humane Society is projecting over 2,500 animals will have been adopted by January 1st.
