The view of the Windsor waterfront has changed.
Friday morning, work crews and a crane hoisted the giant 150 ft flagpole for the Great Canadian Flag project.
The pole arrived in four large pieces on a flatbed truck early Friday morning at the foot of Ouellette Ave.
Windsor resident Mike O'Neil lives on the waterfront and went down to watch.
"It is pretty awesome," he says. "It has been a long time in the works and it is pretty exciting."
The Windsor-Essex Community Foundation helped to raise the necessary funds to make the project happen.

Team member and Project Chair Peter Hrastovec says the scene brought tears to his eyes when he arrived this morning.
"It is like Christmas day and the Super Bowl. It is like Canada Day every day now because we have this flag here."
The giant 60-ft by 30-ft Canadian flag will be raised a week from Saturday on May 20th in a dedication ceremony.
