An American woman has been charged for failing to declare close to $100,000 worth of jewellery at the Ambassador Bridge.
On September 9th, a vehicle driven by a U.S resident was referred to secondary examination by Canada Border Services Agency officers.
Several empty jewellery boxes were found and a search of the woman's handbag found a large amount of gold jewellery, which the woman said was from Dubai.
The driver was allowed to proceed into Canada, but the jewellery was detained for appraisal and found it was worth $99,000.
Customs Act charges of non-report, making false statements and attempting to evade payment of taxes were laid against the woman and an arrest warrant was issued.
She has not been found and arrested.
