WINDSOR — A Windsor club is marking a special milestone.
The Downtown Lions Club is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Thursday.
Club President Sean Hunt says the club is a service organization with a mandate to serve the blind and visually impaired.
He says the Windsor club has left its mark globally.
"It launched the Lions Club into the international expansion around the globe. We're now in over 200 countries with 46,000 different clubs and 1.4-million members," he said.
The local club has had 100 different presidents which is something to be proud of according to Hunt who has been a member for 22 years.
"It's been a great experience," he says. "I've made a lot of great friends, helped a lot of very great people, helped people get back on their feet. It's just been so overwhelming. The support that we've seen from the community and what we've been able to do to give back to the community."
The club currently has about 50 members.
Hunt says they hold a number of events throughout the year including the club's annual golf tournament and a steak barbeque.
The club is holding an anniversary celebration later in March.
