Pride Week in Windsor-Essex has come to a close and organizers are declaring it a success.
The 25th anniversary of the event wrapped up with a parade and a cash boost for more programs to help the LGBT+ community.
More than 67 floats made their way down Ouellette Ave. from Elliot St. around 11am Sunday.
Windsor west MPP Lisa Gretzky announced a Ontario Trillium Grant totally $460,000 over three years once everyone arrived at Festival Plaza.
President David Lenz told AM800 News the entire week went smoothly.
"Everything went great, the flag raising was amazing, bowling was really good, like always," he says. "We had three different events on Friday, which is new for us. We had lawn bowling, which the weather stopped about an hour before, so we were lucky there, and then we had our 'Untoxicated' event, and they had a great time there. Our Rhondo Glitter Ball event was a huge success."
Lenz says it was probably their biggest parade on record with 67 floats. Between participants and residents he estimates more than 1000 people made it out Sunday morning.
"It's the most floats that we've ever had in the parade so we're very excited about that, it just shows that more people are wanting to get involved and raise awareness," he says.
The Trillium Grant is going to allow the organization to do so much more in the community, Lenz added.
"Again, it was a great turn out, with our grant you're going to start seeing more things constantly, not just for Pride Week, It's going to be every month," says Lenz.
He told AM800 News grant money will go towards support programs specifically designed to help those in the LGBT+ community dealing with issue surround mental health, addiction, and social isolation.
