Masses are returning to the historic Assumption Church in West Windsor.
With the completion of the copper shingle roof and asbestos remediation, an engineer has given the green light to have masses back in the 174-year-old church.
The first mass will take place on Sunday, Sept. 8th at 11 a.m.
Paul Mullins who has been spearheading the fundraising efforts says a new heating system is currently being installed.
"The major part of the installation of the heating system will complete by the time we move in, with at least the body of the church," he says.
Bishop Ronald Fabbro made the announcement to parishioners at Rosary Chapel Thursday morning and is pleased to finally re-open the doors.
"Very happy, we have been working at this for a long time," he says. "It has been a hard time for our people at Assumption to have the church closed like that and so I'm so delighted that we can open it."
Pastoral Minister Jean Beneteau says it will be great to be back.
"People will be excited about the opportunity to worship here again, but it also gives us access to the university community, to the residence on the other side of the bridge who have a hard time getting to our other sites."
