Windsor police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year.
Police were dispatched to Windsor Regional Hospital around 5:30pm on Tuesday for a 19-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The investigation led to a home in the 700-block of University Ave. E. near Louis Ave. The victim died in the hospital.
Around 10:45pm Tuesday, investigators went to an apartment in the 8700 block of Riverside Dr East, east of Dieppe St, and arrested a 45-year-old man.
The suspect and victim were known to each other.
Windsor Police Sergeant Steve Betteridge says officers are hoping possible witnesses come forward.
"From a community safety side of things we're extremely pleased that an arrest was able to be made so quickly," says Betteridge. "And because it's such an active investigation if anyone has any information, at all, please give us a shout even if you don't think it's too much or that the police may already have that, that may not be the case."
Betteridge says at this point they're not releasing the names of the victim or accused.
"If charges are sworn to and laid later today then that case may change but the investigation is still very much in its early stages," he says.
