The Municipality of Lakeshore is condemning a racial slur that was painted on a pathway between the St. Anne's High School and St. William Elementary School.
As heard on AM800 news Wednesday morning, provincial police have launched an investigation.
Mayor Tom Bain says the town is disappointed and says there is zero tolerance for racism in the municipality.
"It's just sad to see that, hopefully they catch the person," says Bain.
He's asking the public to step forward if they have any information.
"A lot of times there's always someone who has seen something and no matter how small you may think it is, we're asking that they contact our OPP," says Bain. "Someone who was just hanging out in the area or something strange that they saw around that time. We certainly would like to catch this person whoever it is or persons."
He says town staff was dispatched and covered up the racial slur.
"Residents I believe had already gone out and did some covering up of it but we got our staff out there and did what we hope was a complete job of covering it up," says Bain. "The whole thing was just disgraceful."
Bain says he first became aware of the incident last weekend.
According to police, the incident occurred in the overnight hours between Sunday, July 5 and Monday, July 6.
The suspect used blue spray paint to write a racial slur on the walkway.
