As a strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. Monday nears, the union representing employees of Transit Windsor and the Transit Windsor Collective Bargaining Committee remain at the table to try and hammer out a deal.
"We are in negotiations, and have been meeting since Wednesday, with the Transit Windsor Collective Bargaining Committee," said Michael Lucier, the financial secretary/treasurer with Amalgamated Transit Union local 616 in a statement to AM800 News.
"We will continue to work throughout the weekend with the hope and intention of attaining a fair and reasonable offer for our entire membership prior to midnight, Sunday, January 14, 2024," he said.
ATU local 616 represents almost 300 members, including bus drivers and mechanics.
According to the union, members have flagged wages and benefits, health and safety, and operational concerns among their priorities for a new contract.
Lucier said their most recent four-year contract expired on Sept. 30 2023 and, despite negotiating since, they've been unable to settle any issues.
