The Ontario Civilian Police Commission has received an application from the Town of Amherstburg to switch police forces.
The application was received this week on Monday, March 12.
Spokesperson for the 'Safety, Licensing Appeals and Standards Tribunals Ontario', Silvia Cheng says "it is currently reviewing the application and will decide on next steps shortly."
On February 26, 2018, Amherstburg Council voted 3-2 to accept a proposal from the Windsor Police Service to take over the town's policing.
The 20-year contract would go into effect January 1, 2019 but it still needs final approval from the commission.
Over the lifetime of the agreement, the town would save about $14-million plus an additional $2-million in pensions and benefits.
