Prince Andrew Public School students in LaSalle will soon have a new place to call home.
Town council has approved the use of land near Sandwich Secondary School and the Vollmer Complex to build the new school.
Councillor Sue Desjarlais says it's the perfect location to best serve the growing community.
"You've got everything right there," she says. "You've got the Vollmer Complex. You've got Sandwich Secondary. You've got a new road for the buses, that's not going to be an issue. You've got housing that's going to be close by. You've got housing that's planned to go in past there. What better spot to build a school?"
She says the neighbourhood has outgrown the current Prince Andrew.
"It's an aging school. They have portables out there. I think it'll be great for the kids. It's a brand new facility. So, I think, these young people are going to have a state-of-the-art opportunity at education and how much better can that be for kids?"
She says it's a win-win for the town and the school board.
"I'm glad that they looked at LaSalle to do it. I'm pleased with what the board decided. So let's just get moving on this and get it built for the kids. We're going to fill the school again and I just hope that they build it to current and put a little bit of growth in it."
In October of last year, the Ministry of Education announced $9-million in funding to build the new Prince Andrew which is expected to be ready for the 2019 or 2020 school year.
