A Lakeshore based maker of aluminium auto parts is getting a boost from the federal government.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains announced a $17-million investment at the Canadian Auto Show in Toronto.
He says Astrex Incorporated is just opening its new facility and will be exporting parts to the US and elsewhere.
Bains says the money will go to the construction of the manufacturing plant. He points out the facility will produce high strength aluminium parts for vehicles which will reduce fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.
Bains says this is a significant job creator.
"The investment will create 62 full time jobs and generate more than $100-million in exports in the first phase of the project," says Bains. "It's about good quality jobs its about making sure we're an export oriented sector as well. An additional 24 jobs are expected to be added in the 2nd phase"
The $17-million is a repayable loan from Ottawa.
