A province-wide smoking ban on hospital property appears to have created another problem for residents living near Windsor Regional Hospital.
Ward 4 Councillor Chris Holt has received several calls from home owners about hospital staff, patients or visitors, sitting on their front lawn having lunch and smoking a cigarette.
"So the residents, they are not too appreciative of this," says Holt. "So I'm lucky I've got [city] administration and Windsor Regional Hospital working together on this so hopefully some solution comes forward on this soon."
As of January 1, hospitals had to remove their smoking areas from hospital property.
Although the issue was created by the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, Holt says it will be up to the city to come up with a solution.
"The province is driving the bus on this, they have decided there is no smoking here, so the city is looking into ways to accommodate them within our right of ways."
He says in some cases, smokers are also going to the median on Kildare Road to smoke.
Holt points out the problem is not as bad near the Ouellette Campus because it is bounded by commercial property.
