Ontario Minister of Health Deb Matthews is not in favour of charging patients to force them out of acute care beds.

The former Auditor General of Windsor is setting the record straight.

At a news conference heard live on AM 800, lawyer Jim Cooke who is representing Todd Langlois says Langlois was given no reasons for his termination.

Langlois requested to review the books at Enwin but was told by Mayor Eddie Francis that Enwin wasn't in his scope of responsiblities.

Cooke called city hall a "toxic workplace" and that there is a culture of control emanating from the mayor's office.

At this point, Langlois has not filed a lawsuit.

Windsor Police have released more details on the local arrests following a massive province-wide child pornography investigation.

Of the 60 people charged in Ontario, 5 are from Windsor and a Scarborough man was also arrested in Windsor.

In one case, a man was seen viewing the child pornography in public (at a book store and on a bus).

Two of the suspects were charged after chatting on-line with an undercover police officer posing as a 15 year old girl.

Windsor Police Staff Sergeant Bill Donnelly says officers have to go through thousand and thousands of images as part of this investigation.

The charges range from accessing, possession and distribution of child porn as well as luring a child for sexual purposes.

Police say two of the suspects have had previous convictions, one for a similar child luring case and another for a bank robbery.

FIXING WOODLOT DEBACLE

Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis says it's his job to find a solution to keep the 256-bed long term care project moving forward at St. Clair College.

The 35-million dollar deal between Schlegel and the college is in jeopardy because of decision of city council.

The city was suppose to "sell" a woodlot to the college in exchange for the college land to build the new facility.

But council voted Monday to "lease" the woodlot for 99 years for one dollar, which the college won't accept.

Francis has been burning up the phone lines to work something out.

He admits the hiccup is a "significant hurdle" but he hopes to have some sort of solution by the end of this week or Monday.

'LEASED' WOODLOT PLAN DEFENDED

Ward 1 City Councillor Drew Dilkens is defending a decision by the city's executive committee to lease a woodlot to St. Clair College.

Dilkens says the 99 year lease for one dollar is reasonable and protects the future of the woodlot.

As AM 800 news reported this morning, College President Dr. John Strasser said the city was suppose to "sell" the woodlot to the college in exchange for college land to build a long-term care home.

Strasser says the committee's decision on Monday jeopardizes the long-term care deal.

Dilkens admits initially the plan was to sell the woodlot, but after receiving further information, council felt leasing the property was the best way to protect it.

     Deal or no deal?

That's the question in a dispute between St. Clair College and the City of Windsor.

An agreement to build a $35 million dollar long-term care home on college property hinges on the sale of a city-owned woodlot to the college in exchange for land to build the home.

E-BIKE BYLAW CONSIDERED

Windsor is working on a bylaw dealing with e-bikes on city roads, sidewalks and bike lanes.

Anyone 16 and over can drive one as long as they're wearing a helmet but they aren't considered a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act and don't need insurance.

City Engineer, Mario Sonego says the wording of a bylaw needs to be just right so other motorized vehicles such as wheelchairs aren't impacted.

A report on e-bike bylaws drafted by other cities is expected soon.

Scratch an aquarium off Windsor's wish list.

The once-talked-about $50 million to $100 million project is off the radar because new aquariums are being built in Toronto and Toledo and the market can't support one in Windsor. As well, the University of Windsor has already served notice that it doesn't have the funding to enter into an aquarium partnership.

Other projects under consideration as part of Windsor's 2012 capital plan are a transient marina and a new city hall. A report is being prepared on how long the current building will last.

KEY WITNESS TAKES THE STAND

A key witness for the crown at a double murder trial in Windsor has testified she saw a body in the garage of one of the accused.

Timothy Carter and Donald Dodd are charged with first and second degree murder in the deaths of Peter Kambas and Vaios Koukousoulas.

Mary McConnell was Peter Kambas's girlfriend back in June 2008.

McConnell testified she spoke to Kambas on the phone while he was at Carter's home on Moy Avenue.

She felt uncomfortable with that conversation so she repeatedly went to Carter's home in hopes of seeing Kambas.

At one point, after hearing somebody arguing, she looked through a hole in the garage and saw somebody laying on the floor.

She admitted she only saw an arm but it wasn't moving.

She also smelled gasoline or propane.

The crown claims Kambas and Koukousoulas were beaten to death in Carter's garage which was later set on fire to hide the evidence.

It's back and it's more annoying than ever. After seeming to die down in recent weeks, the Zug Island hum has returned with a vengeance.

Ward 10 Councillor, Al Maghnieh got several calls from frustrated residents on the weekend. Saying he doesn't ' ...buy into this cross-border crap anymore', he plans to fire off a letter to the federal government demanding that something be done.

Testing last year determined the low frequency sound wave was coming from the Zug Island area but the exact cause has not been determined.

The noise is blamed for vibrating doors and windows and keeping residents in west Windsor, Lasalle and elsewhere awake at night.
